Assalam alaikum
Every year, from September 1st till January 31st, the land of Casa Rabbani
in Amelia is invaded by hunters.
If it were for survival reason ok, but to shoot little birds, weighting few grams,
it is just a cruel useless activity, categorized as ‘sport’ by the Italian law.
The hunters shoot before sunrise and after sunset when it is dark, killing also protected species. Their dogs killed
our rooster and some chickens.
Many times during the early morning prayers and meditation
we risked the heart attack;
they may shoot so close to the house
that the bullets reach the window.
We tried to speak with the hunters
and they say the are hunting in our land since 30 years while we live here
since just 7 years…
The Italian law allows the hunters
to enter any property for shooting,
keeping 50 meters from houses and streets, if there is no fence
all around the land.
We consulted all the authorities
involved and the conclusion
is that the only way to stop them
is to put a fence all around the property.
The land in Casa Rabbani, being 3,5 hectares, is only fenced in the North street side,
and partly along the East border.
It will be pretty costly
also to cut the thorny bushes on the borders in order to fix the fence,
but we have to start.
