Ar-Razzaq

The Provider

Exalted and Glorious

Verily, Allah is the All-Provider.  (51:58)

This name is an attribute of Allah.  All actions that lead to support are under the direction of the Real King, the Lord and Creator of all creation, and at His will and pleasure.  As a sign of our gratitude for His beneficence and blessings showered on us, we must feed the hungry and help the needy.

He who recites this name will be provided with sustenance by Allah.

Ar-Razzaq is the One Who offers provision and gives all of His creatures their provision.  He is the Provider of everything that needs anything; the Preserver of life.  There is no other provider, and do not expect your provision form other than Him, and do not abase yourself to other than Him.

He is the Sustainer.  Sustenance is needed to maintain the creation, and there is both a physical and a spiritual sustenance.  Physical sustenance gives energy to the body and keeps it alive for a fixed period of time, while spiritual sustenance gives us eternal life.  In the case of human beings, one should count as physical sustenance not only food, drink, air, and clothing but also our mother and father, husband or wife, and children as well.  Even our possessions and knowledge are part of our sustenance.

All that falls under what we call the laws of nature is also included in material sustenance.  There is nothing empty or useless in the universe.  Every single creation is a treasure, as is indicated in the verse

Our Lord, You have not created this universe in vain.  (Surah al ‘Imran 190)

All material sustenance is pure in origin.  Only if it is soiled by human hands does it become undesirable, hateful, and unlawful.  Therefore, we must first seek and find the elements of sustenance in everything.  Whoever cannot receive his sustenance because he does not make any effort is one of the unsustained, which is a curse.  And again, if a person soils with his dirty hands the pure sustenance given to him, he is one of those who partake of what is unlawful.

The spiritual sustenances are contained in the holy books, but some holy books, although originally pure, have also been soiled by human hands.  Not so the Holy Qur’an, the last and final sacred book, which has not been tampered with: not even a dot has been changed.  But just as we have to make efforts to gain our material sustenance, we will receive our spiritual sustenance from the Holy Qur’an to a degree equal to the extent of our efforts.

‘Abd ar-Razzaq is the one whom Allah has rendered rich and who knows that those riches come from Allah and from no one else.  ‘Abd ar-Razzaq is sustained not only by material riches but also by a knowledge leading to truth, by a tongue that teaches the path to salvation, and by a heart filled with love and compassion.  Such a one becomes a source through whom others gain their sustenance with ease and in abundance.

If a person who truly believes that our sustenance comes from Allah finds that his household is in need, he may, after morning prayers, recite ya Razzaq 10 times at the four corners of his house, starting from the corner in the direction of the qiblah.  Allah may increase the sustenance of his family.

People who have this name written out and hanging in their workplace may be more successful.  To recite ya Razzaq 100 times after Friday communal prayers may help people who are stressed and depressed.
